Lacrosse is a competitive sport in which the teams use long-handled rackets, which look like nets, to catch, handle, and throw the ball on the opponent’s field. The ball is handled by the players in an oval-triangle-shaped net made of nylon or leather. No matter which game you are planning to start playing, it is extremely important that you get familiar with and understand the basics and the rules of it! The same is the case for lacrosse, especially since it is not a very common game. With that being said, we have sought out some lacrosse essentials to help you on your way to becoming a pro. Happy reading and learning!

1. Keep It Simple

The best way to start is by keeping it simple. Do not go for long passes. Aim for short but sharp passes, and not for the glory pass just yet!

2. Practice ‘Handling’ The Ball

Lacrosse is all about practicing to keep the ball in the pocket of your stick. This is called cradling. The key to getting better at Lacrosse is practicing to the extent that you do not have to look at the ball. Rather, at that point, your instincts will tell and help you play along.

3. Always Face The Passer

Apart from the tricks mentioned above, it is extremely important that you are facing the passer when you receive the ball. This will benefit you by providing a better view of the path the ball will take to reach your stick.

4. Catch The Ball Very Carefully

When you catch the ball in the head of your lacrosse stick, you should let it give while receiving the pass. This means that the head of the sticks must drop back with the ball so that the ball does not pop out from the stick. It is similar to how you would move your hand if you were trying to catch an egg, which has slipped and is about to hit the ground, from breaking.

We hope you understood the basics of lacrosse. Practice these with your friends and playmates to master the game!
